Full and Partial House Rewiring Across West Sussex
Electrical wiring has a lifespan. Properties with wiring that is more than 25–30 years old — particularly those with rubber-insulated, lead-sheathed, or aluminium cables — are unlikely to meet current safety standards and should be assessed for rewiring. An outdated installation can present real risks: overloaded circuits, ineffective fault protection, and wiring that degrades with age.
MLP Electrics carries out full and partial house rewires across Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill, East Grinstead and the wider West Sussex area. We plan every job carefully to minimise disruption, work room-by-room where possible, and complete all second-fix finishing once the first-fix cable routes are in place and plastered. All rewiring work is certified under Part P of the Building Regulations.
A rewire is also the ideal opportunity to upgrade the entire electrical system: new consumer unit with RCBO protection, additional circuits for modern loads (EV charger, electric shower, home office), improved socket and lighting positions, and smoke detection throughout. We carry out a free survey to assess your installation and provide a detailed written quotation before any commitment.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a full house rewire cost in West Sussex?
A full house rewire in West Sussex typically costs £3,000 to £6,000 for a standard 3 to 4 bedroom semi-detached, and £4,500 to £9,000 for a larger detached house. The price depends on the number of rooms, the condition of the existing installation, and your spec in terms of sockets, lighting points, and dedicated circuits. We do a free detailed survey before you commit to anything.
How long does a full house rewire take?
A full rewire on a 3 to 4 bedroom house typically takes 5 to 10 working days depending on the property. Partial rewires covering a single floor, extension, or outbuilding can usually be done in 1 to 3 days. We agree a schedule with you beforehand so you know what to expect each day.
Do I need to move out during a house rewire?
Not necessarily. For most full rewires we work room by room so you can stay in the property, though there will be periods without power to parts of the house during first fix. We go through the schedule with you beforehand so you can plan around the busier days. Some customers prefer to be out for the first-fix phase and we can advise on whether that makes sense for your property.
When does a house need rewiring?
There are a few signs to look out for. Wiring more than 25 to 30 years old, especially rubber-insulated or lead-sheathed cables, is a good indication. So is an EICR that comes back with multiple C1 or C2 codes related to the wiring, circuit breakers that trip repeatedly, burning smells, or discoloured sockets. If you've got aluminium wiring, which was common in some 1960s and 70s properties, that's also worth addressing.
Is a house rewire Part P notifiable?
Yes. Full and partial rewiring is notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations. We register all notifiable work with building control and issue the compliance certificate when the job is done. You'll need it for insurance purposes and your solicitors will ask for it when you sell.
Will a rewire cause much disruption or mess?
Some disruption is unavoidable. Cables need to be chased into walls and floors during first fix, and plaster gets disturbed at socket and switch positions. We work as tidily as we can, protect carpets and furniture, and clean up at the end of every day. Second-fix finishing happens once the plastering is done, and we can work around your decorator's schedule.
